Pergola Inspiration

Pergola Inspiration

With every project, I start with an inspiration photo (or two, or three). What do I want this space to FEEL like? Not necessarily look like – not yet at least. I create a board on Pinterest and I pin away. What do I like? What don’t I like (almost as important as what I like)? What do I want out of this space? After I pin a series of images, I go back and see what they have in common and narrow down my vision – deleting some pins in the process.

Here is a look at the main images that inspired my very own Pergola!!!

Swoonworthy right? Oh, and based on the images I loved, I also knew I NEEDED to have curtains and black+white stripes

But, when I started to price things out, this rug from Frontgate was nearly $400 and this teak patio furniture was over $6,000! Definitely over my budget! Yikes. Why does all patio furniture feel like you’re shopping at Chanel? There just is never a sale. Ever. Believe me, I’ve been waiting for two years for a real. good. sale on outdoor furniture. They don’t exist. And, for me, even a $2000 set was out of budget. I also didnt want to settle for the cheap knockoff table you can find at big box stores. Ew. I’d rather have nothing.

With that, my search was on. And, you guys. I think I nailed it. Here’s a quick peek at our pergola! I love it so much.  #backyardgoals. Check check.

Here’s a quick run down of my shopping list:

Black and white stripe pillow covers from Ikea (20×20) Note: these are only $6 in store. Inner cushions are $3 each. The fabric is not intended for outdoor use, so I just bring them in when it’s going to rain.

Lanterns and Planters also from Ikea. Succulents from Costco.

Lill Lace Sheer Curtains from Ikea $5/PAIR (WIN)

Target patio side tables $29

Small black and white rectangle rug from Target $20. Love it. The large rug I have shown is from Ikea and we have had it forever. I don’t think they make it anymore! I bought it on sale in the damaged bin years ago. But I don’t love it. It’s not easy to clean and it gets really wet from the rain. So I will be on the lookout for a new one next season.

Patio Set: The exact one I bought is sold out (less than $700 for EIGHT pieces AND cushions!!!) but this one on amazon is pretty close. Just buy two.

Stay tuned for the full before+after post coming soon!
